Child Soldiers
This series of sculptures is about child soldiers. I want to explore my experiences and feelings of vulnerability and to look at how this condition presents itself in reaction to extreme violence in the world at large.The human responses to violence and the cost and consequence of violence are never one-dimensional. Violence can reduce a person to a helpless wreck or inspire surprising strength. Or, of course, it can create more violence: especially amongst those in control and with power, it can turn a person, perhaps quite unexpectedly, into a tyrant, capable of extreme cruelty.
I have been working with the child soldiers as a way to explore how we human related to if other in difficult circumstances.  the compelling poignancy of the violent moment wherever it appears in the world at present.
